The Annual Banquet for players and their families will be held Monday, May 19 at 6:30 at the Alamo Joe's. Players and family members are $15 per person. Player awards will be given at the banquet. Raffle ticket and money's are due as well. Please bring the ticket stubs completed.

Crowne Plaza-Houston Suites, 9090 SW Freeway, Houston, Texas, 77074 and is about 1.5 miles from the pitch - Call (713) 995-0123 ask for IN HOUSE RESERVATIONS. Request the Texas High School Rugby Championship rate, the rate is $99 flat (king or two queens) and includes a full, American breakfast for up to four persons in a room. All of our accommodations are two-room suites with a separate living room and bedroom. The rate extends to all schools participating in the tournament, faculty, parents, friends, etc. as long as they identify themselves as being associated with the tournament.

Team Check-in and Registration
Teams will have check-in according to team kick offs and schedule. Please be on time and have all necessary documentation available. ALL Players will need photo IDs at registration. We will need a copy of every players birth certificate by Wednesday's Practice.

U17 and U19 will be on both Saturday and Sunday U15 will be held only on Sunday

On Sat evening there will be a planned TYRA Banquet with a USA Rugby Guest Speaker and announcement of the All-Star Teams and Coaches (for the rugby players, coaches and all staff) following the last match played at about 6:30 pm until about 9:00 pm For more information , contact Rick Marshall on his cell number: 281-389-9620

Girls Match this weekend

1130 - Arrive at field to help Coach set it up - if you can be there earlier, awesome - let Coach know
12-1245 - Joint practice with TCU
1245-1330 - GAMES! Three 15 min periods of 7-a-side rugby
1330-1500 - HARC Women vs Austin Women
The HARC Women will "tear down" the field.

Please plan on staying and mingling with the TCU gals as this is another part of the rugby tradition. My plan was to order Subway subs - one 6" per girl- for all players. Can anyone's parent(s) help to organize as I will be playing in the Women's match that day?? The club will reimburse for the costs.

What to bring
Shorts, Socks, MOUTHGUARD, kletes, sunscreen and FUN! (Ariel, please bring the Woman of the Match jersey).

U19 Players and Families

Dear U19 Players and Families,

We have a difficult decision to make concerning our participation and attendance at upcoming events. We will be playing in the State Quarterfinals Saturday in Dallas and then on to the State Championship in Houston. If we finish as one of the three top club teams in the state, we will be invited to the regionals in St. Louis in May and we need to determined several things.

First we must determine our players commitment to the state finals as well as regionals in St. Louis. Our players must be committed to going to state and/or regionals.

Second, if our players and families commit to going to St. Louis, we must have parent volunteers willing to coordinate the trip, raise funds and do all the little things necessary to make it a successful endeavor.

We will have a meeting for U19 parents and players, Tuesday, April 15 at 7:00 p.m. in The Woodlands High School cafeteria to determine what the team and the families are committed to in the final stages of the season.

U15/Freshman friendly against St Thomas this Friday. Car pool at McCullough Junior High at 350 pm with a 4 pm depart. Coach Tibby will be the point of contact for the carpool. We have a 5 pm kickoff, so everyone please arrive at St Thomas ASAP.

Jerseys, water cooler and water bottles all need to arrive promptly. If there are issues with these items, please let Coach Donovan know TODAY 281) 433-7169.

USA Rugby U17 Eagles Win

The USA Rugby U17 Eagles opened the 2008 Millfield Rugby Festival with a win against a tough Portugese side. Tuesdays victory marked the first win for the U17 program which is in just its second year. The U17s were well-prepared for the match as they had endured a grueling week of training before arriving at Millfield and were eager to avenge a 31-29 loss to the Lincoln Schools Select side they had played against the previous week.

The Americans opened last years tournament against the Portuguese, suffering a heart-breaking 11-8 loss. This years squad was determined to reverse the result. The team was both mentally and physically prepared for the game after the excellent preparation provided by Coach OLeary and his staff at RAF Kirton.

The match was played on Millfields Jubilee pitch which was in beautiful shape. The weather for the game was cool with a strong breeze blowing through the stadium. The Junior Eagles had only two players unavailable for the match Matias Cima (groin) and Jamie Borup (illness). The squad was supported by a large American contingent who had traveled to the UK to cheer the team on.

Only 28 players requested and paid for sandwiches so they will receive food at A&M at 11.15 for all others they will need to either take their own or buy at the tournament.

We look forward to a great tournament get sleep on Friday night and see everyone at A&M.

Texas Select Trials

Dear Parents, Family, Players and Volunteers,

Our club is hosting the Texas All Star Tryouts-South on Sunday, March 16. This is a full day of player evaluations by the Texas Youth Rugby Association coaches and they need our support.

Our coaches are encouraging all of our U17 and U19 starting players to tryout for the Texas Elite Team, the Avispas Rojas or Red Wasps. This team will represent our state at the Rocky Mountain Challenge in Denver. Our U17 team attended last year and won the tournament. Our U19 team won their tournament in Baltimore. Last year, five U17 and one U19 Woodlands players made the state team.

We need the help of volunteers on Sunday, March 16 at Lone Star College (Montgomery). I encourage all parents and family of players to volunteer. In addition, our club will earn some revenue from the tryouts and it will help fund our players who make the team.

We need volunteers to:

1. Register players from 8:00 to 9:15. We need several more laptops and a digital camera.
2. Coordinate the purchase and delivery of a box (sandwich type) lunch.
3. Supply water and mix Gatorade.
4. Set up and tear down table and canopies.
5. General help.

As you can see, most of the volunteers will be working only a short while. If we get enough water boys they can work in shifts. Please contact me at jacobsondaniel@hotmail.com or call me at 713-992-9837 for information or commitment.

One last thing; please encourage your players to either tryout or help out with this event. The first-time players will see first-hand what the coaches expect and evaluate. The season is racing by and our teams are maturing and gaining momentum. Lets support our players.
