Texas High Performance U19s Win in Denver!

Once again, Woodlands Youth Rugby has a strong showing on the Texas HP teams this year. With 15 players between the U19 and U17 teams, our presence was solid. These players worked very hard to make the final cut. Players making the Texas HP teams are listed below.
The U19s beat Utah in the finals to take the tournament in a very exciting match. The U17s took 5th place.

7’s and Texas HP Players

ALL Players that are playing 7’s over the summer MUST Attend practice Wednesday, June 16th at Lakeside Park from 6-8pm.
Bring a Check for $50 to cover field cost and tournament fees.
For sure we will have a U15 and U17 teams. U19 depends on number of willing players, U13 depends on other teams.
ALL Texas HP Players must come to pick up their Texas Kit. If you do not come, you wont have your kit for Denver.

ALL Players must be at the field NO later than 7:45am.
Make sure to bring Mouth Piece, Cleats, Shorts, Water and anything else you might need.
Tournament starts at 8am and goes until about 3pm.
Bring $5 to cover your entry fee (includes lunch and Gatorade)

The Strake Jesuit Rugby Camp is June 22, 23, & 24th and again Eddie O’Sullivan from the US Eagles will be there.

Eddie’s credentials speak for the themselves. There is another coach attending named Eamonn Hogan formerly of the Leicester Tiger’s Academy. Eamonn coaches in England but is a regular resources for the US U-20 & U-18 coaches. In addition the Rice & SJ coaches will be there as well.

Spread the word especially for the u-12 & u-14 camp. No experience necessary.

Subvarsity Tournament Cancelled

Due to multiple teams pulling out of the tournament this weekend, Rugby Texas is cancelling the tournament for Saturday. The lack of committment to the younger age levels by both single schools and clubs across the state is quite unfortunate.

It was REALLY hard to find a hotel that wasn’t booked. I was able to get this booked for coaches/players at Western Rugby rate ($89) – but I took all the booked rooms and they wouldn’t allow parents to have this rate anyway. The are other rooms available, but not at the special rate, the regular rate is $159/night.
There is a café of sorts connected and they will have hot breakfast available (potatoes, eggs, bacon – no pancakes) – but we pay for breakfast. Starting at 6:30 in the morning – I’ve warned them we are coming.

Our first match is against Kansas City at 12:00 on Saturday
Sunday our match will be at 9:30 or 11 – depending on how we’ve done so far. Against Katy or Jenks, OK, depending on what their outcome on Saturday.

NOTE: THEY DO NOT ALLOW METAL CLEATS ON THIS FIELD – this is an artificial surface and the city of Fort Worth does not allow use of metal cleats. All players must either wear molded soccer-style cleats or replace metal spikes w/ screw-in plastic spikes

The Ladies won the crown this weekend in Austin at the State Rugby Tournament. It is the first State Championship by the Woodlands Girls Varsity Team.

Scholarships cover the cost of camp tuition only.

Transportation costs to/from Berkeley, CA are not covered.

Who is eligible to receive a scholarship?

Girls between the ages of 14 and 19 who would not have the opportunity to attend camp due to financial reasons

Players with sufficient interest in rugby such that an intensive 4 day camp near or away from home would not be an obstacle
